Day 44 - Durban, South Africa
Durban, South Africa We canceled the tour we had planned due to the heat warnings. I just can’t take the heat and Stuart is kind and accommodating about that. Of course, he could have gone on his own but he is getting tired of the extreme heat and humidity as well. We heard later that the specific tour we planned was not very good. Who knows? Since we had no tour scheduled, we were one of the last to pass the on board, face to face, immigration. We were due to go at 2p but then they called our deck right after 12 noon. We were at the pool and it took a bit of time to gather what we needed. It was very fast, almost a walk-through process but they did check our passports. The necessary form was pre-filled by HAL, that is always nice.
We took the provided shuttle to the drop off point. It was an aquarium, which we did not go to but we went the other way along a nice shopping area. I was happy to find a shop with postcards and stamps. As we walked on, we ran into our Canadian friends (John, Blanche, Paul, Diana) as well. We chatted and snapped a few photos. They told us of a restaurant they may come back to, so we thought we would stop there for dinner.
We spent time walking
around the area and looking into shop windows. We ran into some of the gals
from the casino and took a photo. They are a fun bunch! After walking a way, we
failed to notice the restaurant. We saw a young man and asked him about it. We
had passed it; he was happy to show us where it was. We had delicious ribs,
chicken, fries, and their version of onion rings, sort of like frizzled onions,
but they don’t stay crisp. The ribs were SO good we ordered a second plate of
them! Of course, both times I failed to take a photo!!! We were close to being
done with our Canadian friends showed up, sans Diana. She was tired of walking
and went back to the ship. They had gone to the aquarium and loved it. The
aquarium itself was inside a big ship! We all move to a bigger table. John and
Blanche ordered what they thought was a plate for 2 to share. Oh my, it could
have served 6!!! Paul opted for a sandwich. We had a fun time. We didn’t get
the last shuttle back to the ship, but maybe next to the last. A fun stop.
Tonight we watched a faraway lightning storm from our verandah.
