Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe to Chobe, Botswana
Today was great. We left Victoria Falls and made our way in a small coach over the border into Botswana. First we had to "exit" Zimbabwe at their check point, then drive a short distance to enter the check point in Botswana. In Botswana we had to have our shoes ready to dip the soles into a liquid that simply looked like muddy water. For the shoes we are wearing, we simply step in the shallow puddle. There is a dip in the road that the bus must drive through. I have my doubts if this really is effective but, of course we do what we are told when visitors in another country!
There was afternoon tea and then our game sunset cruise on the river. I have no words to describe how amazing this was. Our guide Bella is one of a kind. At one point I took this photo below that has at least one of each of the following: elephant, hippo, baboon, mongoose, kudu, giraffe, and impala. It was like something out of a movie. I know one of my fellow travelers has a better photo I plan to use as well.
The Chobe Game Lodge transportation met us at Kasane Airport and transferred us to the lodge. It is LOVELY and truly amazing. Kapama was also great, both are just very different. There is a river here so game congregates around the river of course. We saw herds of elephants and hippos along the way. At one point we saw a leopard coming down from a tree with its kill half gone. I wasn't able to get a photo. I am thinking that the vehicles caused the leopard to move, though I am not sure. We had a brief orientation on arrival then lunch. We were escorted to our rooms, which are fantastic!
Dinner, though we are really not very hungry we joined in because fellow travelers Bev and Scott are celebrating their 30th anniversary today. It was nice for them, they sang to them some anniversary song.
