Chobe Game Lodge, Botswana

Today I slept in when most of the rest of them went on a game drive at 6a. June said they didn't see much and it was quite dusty with a lot of vehicles. This was what I wondered about coming to a National Park and not a private reserve. They got back for breakfast where we connected again, then we had a game cruise at 11a. At that time there was a discussion about skipping the afternoon game drive and opting for the sunset cruise instead. Bella said she would try to work it out for us.

Today we had lunch and dinner on the viewing deck just past our rooms. It was nice but the service is slow. That is not a complaint, just a fact. They had a lovely setting for us. I am not sure how far they have to bring the food so it makes sense the service is slow. Their restaurant is being renovated. Overall, the food is very good here. I had chicken wings and a side salad for lunch and June had a halloumi cheese pita.

There was free time until our 4p sunset cruise. It was not like last night, but it was still an adventure. At one point our boat stopped working, it would only go in reverse! Bella turned it off and restarted, then it would go forward but only at the highest speed. It was back to the dock for us. Of course she could not dock due to the speed but just shut off the boat again. They brought another boat along side and we transferred to the new boat and we were on our way.

There was a lot of elephant activity tonight. Also, African Fisher Eagle, crocodiles, kudu, impalas, and the ever present baboons.

I'm not sure if I mentioned Amarula before? It is a beverage almost like Bailey's but with a bit of a caramel taste to it. I got one of these for everyone at our hotel in Cape Town. they loved it. One taste is enough for me but they are all enjoying it. Before the boat issues the group drank a full sized bottle! There is much laughter and fun so they said the boat problem isn't an issue as long as we have more ice and Amarula! Well, here came a guy to bring another bottle and a bucket of ice. I will say on every safari it is "whatever you want" provided they have it. If they don't, they try to get it for you!!!

It was a great evening cruise followed by dinner. Nice choices like filet and more. My filet was so tender! Two skipped dinner, and all but two are skipping the morning game drive tomorrow. Eric and Scott are the ones willing to face the cold!
